In the third round of the league, Lyon lost 0-1 to Beşiktaş. According to RMC, violent incidents occurred around the stadium after the match. Beşiktaş fans were attacked by Lyon supporters in the stadium square, and the police have launched an investigation.
Following Beşiktaş' goal, their fans and relatives of the players were apparently noticed by Lyon fans. At the end of the match, Beşiktaş fans exited through a side gate while celebrating their victory. At this moment, a group of Lyon fans approached and clashed with the Turkish supporters.
The regional governor issued a statement “strongly condemning the unrest that occurred after the match.” The police quickly intervened, using tear gas. Dozens of Lyon fans picked up trash cans and barricades, preparing to attack Beşiktaş supporters. So far, eight people have been arrested.
