David Coote Decides Not to Appeal PGMOL Dismissal
Posted on December 25, 2024
David Coote, the former Premier League referee, has opted not to appeal his recent dismissal from the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL). The 42-year-old official was sacked following a comprehensive investigation into his conduct, which came to light after a series of allegations about his behavior.
Coote had been suspended since November 11, 2024, pending the investigation into a video that purportedly showed him making derogatory remarks about Liverpool and its former manager, Jurgen Klopp. Additionally, new allegations surfaced involving photos that suggested Coote was engaging in inappropriate behavior during the summer's European Championship. Although these claims have yet to be independently verified, they contributed to PGMOL's conclusion that Coote's position was "untenable."
While Coote had the option to appeal the decision, sources indicate that he has chosen not to pursue this route. The PGMOL has stated that it remains committed to providing support for Coote during this challenging time, and he is also under scrutiny from the Football Association and UEFA regarding his conduct. As this situation unfolds, it raises significant questions about accountability and the standards expected of officials in professional football.
