Aston Villa in Talks to Sign Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund
Posted on January 03, 2025
Aston Villa has initiated discussions with Borussia Dortmund regarding a potential transfer for forward Donyell Malen. The Premier League club is seeking to bolster its attacking options and has identified the 25-year-old Dutch international as a key target. Reports indicate that Dortmund is asking for £16.6 million, plus additional bonuses, after rejecting an initial offer of £13.3 million from Villa.
Malen's situation at Dortmund has been somewhat challenging due to limited starting opportunities, prompting his interest in a move. This season, he has scored five goals in 20 appearances across all competitions, including a recent goal during Dortmund's 3-1 victory over Wolfsburg. Since joining Dortmund from PSV Eindhoven in July 2021 for £26 million, Malen has played a significant role in the team's attack, netting a total of 39 goals in 131 appearances.
In addition to their pursuit of Malen, Aston Villa is also looking to strengthen their squad with a right-sided defender. The club's management is keen to enhance their attacking and defensive depth as the January transfer window progresses. The interest in Malen and other potential signings reflects Villa's ambition to compete at a higher level in the Premier League.
