Alex Pastoor: Candidate for Assistant Coach of the Indonesian National Team with a History with Bali United

Posted on January 08, 2025

Alex Pastoor, who is now one of the candidates for assistant coach of the Indonesian National Team, has a fairly close relationship with Bali United in his career. Although PSSI has not officially announced a new coach after the dismissal of Shin Tae-yong, Patrick Kluivert is expected to be introduced on January 12, with Pastoor and Denny Landzaat as assistants.

Pastoor has significant coaching experience, including when he was Marco van Basten's assistant at AZ Alkmaar. He is known as the coach who successfully brought three teams from the Eerste Divisie to the Eredivisie, including Sparta Rotterdam, where he also led the team to win the Eerste Divisie title in the 2015/2016 season. Although not as popular as Kluivert, Pastoor's achievements in the world of coaching cannot be underestimated.

Pastoor's relationship with Bali United began when he trained players such as Melvin Platje and Nick van der Velden, who had played for the club. Platje, in particular, won two league titles with Bali United. His coaching experience in Europe and his knowledge of players playing in Indonesia could be a valuable asset for the Indonesian national team in its quest to achieve greater success on the international stage.
