Postecoglou Claims Salah Would Struggle at Tottenham
Posted on January 08, 2025
Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham Hotspur, has expressed his belief that even a world-class player like Mohamed Salah would face challenges if he were part of the current Tottenham squad. Ahead of a crucial Carabao Cup semi-final match against Liverpool, Postecoglou highlighted that Tottenham's recent poor form—having lost three and drawn one of their last four matches—would hinder any player’s performance, regardless of their caliber.
Despite Salah's impressive record this season, scoring 21 goals in 27 appearances, Postecoglou maintained that the team's struggles stem from a lack of cohesion and form. He pointed out that effective attacking play requires a well-functioning team that creates opportunities and has a solid defensive foundation, all of which are currently lacking for Spurs. "If you put him in our team now I'm not sure he'll have that same level of performance because of the situation we're in as a group," he stated.
The Spurs manager also discussed the contrasting fortunes of his captain, Son Heung-min, who has recently activated an extension to his contract until 2026. Postecoglou emphasized that while Salah thrives in a strong Liverpool side, the same could be said for Son if he were in a more successful team. He underscored the importance of context in evaluating player performance, suggesting that both players would excel under the right circumstances.
