Jairo Riedewald's Return to Indonesia as a Potential Naturalized Player

Posted on January 16, 2025

Jairo Riedewald, the former Premier League player, is on the verge of becoming a naturalized member of the Indonesian national football team. Riedewald, who has Indonesian heritage through his mother, is currently being considered for this role under the leadership of Indonesia's new head coach, Patrick Kluivert. The 28-year-old plays for Royal Antwerp and is expected to join the national squad soon, with his naturalization process reportedly nearing completion.

Interestingly, Riedewald has prior experience in Indonesia, having played for Ajax Amsterdam during a tour in 2014. At just 17 years old, he participated in matches against local teams Persija Jakarta and Persib Bandung, making a notable impact. In the match against Persija, he started and contributed to a 3-0 victory before coming off in the second half. Three days later, he played again against Persib, this time as a substitute in a game that ended in a 1-1 draw.

If Riedewald's naturalization is finalized, he could make his debut for Indonesia in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Australia and Bahrain in March. With Kluivert's efforts to integrate him into the team, the Indonesian football community is buzzing with anticipation about the potential impact Riedewald could have on the national squad.
