Vietnamese Players Shine in ASEAN Championship's Best XI Selection

Posted on January 18, 2025

In a remarkable display of talent, seven players from the Vietnamese men's football team have been included in the best XI lineup of the 2024 ASEAN Championship, as voted by fans. This announcement, made by the tournament's organizing committee, underscores Vietnam's dominance in the competition, which concluded with their victory over Thailand in the finals. The best XI reflects not only individual excellence but also the collective strength of the Vietnamese squad throughout the tournament.

The lineup features a 4-4-2 formation, with goalkeeper Nguyen Dinh Trieu earning the accolade of Best Goalkeeper of the tournament. The defensive line comprises two Vietnamese players, Bui Tien Dung and Bui Hoang Viet Anh, alongside Thailand's Pansa Hemviboon and Nicholas Mickelson. A point of interest is Hemviboon's unfortunate own goal in the final match, which contributed to Thailand's defeat.

In midfield, Nguyen Quang Hai and Nguyen Hai Long represent Vietnam, while Kyoga Nakamura from Singapore and Sandro Reyes from the Philippines round out the group. Notably absent were Nguyen Hoang Duc and Doan Ngoc Tan, who played vital roles in Vietnam's midfield during the championship. Leading the attack, Nguyen Xuan Son and Nguyen Tien Linh both made significant contributions, with Xuan Son recognized as the tournament's Top Goal Scorer with seven goals. Despite some controversy regarding Tien Linh's inclusion over Thailand's Suphanat Mueanta, the final selection stands as a testament to Vietnam's exceptional performance in the tournament, where they achieved seven wins and one draw.
