Vietnam Football Faces Coaching Shake-Up as South Korean Staff Depart
Posted on February 05, 2025
Vietnam's national football team is undergoing a significant restructuring of its coaching staff following the recent ASEAN Cup 2024 campaign. The departure of four key South Korean assistants, including goalkeeping coach Lee Won Jae, has prompted head coach Kim Sang Sik and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to seek replacements ahead of the upcoming Asian Cup qualifiers.
Among the notable departures is language assistant Lee Seong Joo, who played a vital role in facilitating communication during training sessions and press conferences. Reflecting on his experience, Lee expressed pride in the recognition received from South Korean media and fans after Vietnam's success in the ASEAN Cup. Additionally, physiotherapists Choi Sung Rak and Yoo Seung Min have also left, having contributed significantly to the players' physical fitness throughout the tournament.
With these changes, Kim Sang Sik and the VFF are now focused on filling these crucial coaching roles to ensure the team's preparedness for the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers, starting with their first match against Laos in March. The restructuring of the coaching staff is seen as a pivotal step for Vietnam as they aim to build on their recent achievements and maintain the team's competitive edge on the international stage.
