Indra Sjafri Rejects Superstitions Surrounding Jersey for U-20 National Team at Asian Cup
Posted on February 06, 2025
Indra Sjafri, the coach of the Indonesian U-20 national team, has emphasized that he does not want to associate luck with the jerseys worn by his team during the upcoming U-20 Asian Cup 2025. Ahead of the tournament set to take place in China starting February 12, Sjafri stated that all jerseys hold equal value and should not be treated as charms or symbols of good fortune.
Currently, the U-20 team is undergoing training while still wearing their old black-gray training jerseys. Erspo, the official apparel provider, has recently launched new home jerseys in red and away jerseys in white. Although there is a possibility that the team might be the first to wear the new jerseys, Sjafri stressed that the team's performance should not depend on the kits used.
Sjafri remarked, "I haven't checked yet; I'll ask the kit man if we will wear the new jersey," adding that if the new jersey is ready for use, he would not object, as long as it is not seen as a costume that brings luck. This statement reflects Sjafri's pragmatic approach as the team prepares for this important competition, focusing on preparation and performance on the field.
