Ange Postecoglou Optimistic About Mathys Tel's Future at Tottenham
Posted on February 06, 2025
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has expressed strong confidence that Mathys Tel will remain with the club beyond his loan spell from Bayern Munich. The young forward, who joined Spurs on a temporary basis with a £45 million option for a permanent transfer, has caught the attention of Postecoglou, who emphasized that he did not bring Tel in for just six months. The 19-year-old is expected to play a significant role in the team's ambitions this season, especially with key injuries impacting the squad.
Tel’s move to Tottenham came after a dramatic change of heart, where he initially rejected the club before being convinced by Postecoglou's vision and assurances about his playing time. The manager stated, "He will be a Tottenham player. I think he will show everyone he will be a Tottenham player in the next six months." Postecoglou is keen on integrating Tel into various attacking roles, as injuries have left Spurs short on options, particularly in the forward positions.
As Spurs prepare for their Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool, both Tel and fellow new signing Kevin Danso are available for selection. Postecoglou highlighted the versatility of Tel, who can operate as a center forward or on the wings, providing much-needed depth to a squad currently managing several injury issues. With Tel set to make his debut soon, fans can look forward to seeing how the young talent will contribute to Tottenham's campaign moving forward.
