Posted on February 07, 2025
Indonesian national team defender Sandy Walsh is reportedly preparing to leave his European career behind to join Japan's Yokohama F. Marinos. Currently playing for KV Mechelen in Belgium's Pro League, Walsh has decided to expedite the conclusion of his contract, which was set to expire in the summer, to pursue a new adventure in Asia. This move is seen as a significant step for Walsh, marking his first professional experience outside of Europe.
Journalist Jonas van de Veire has confirmed that Walsh has already traveled to Japan to finalize the details of his transfer, with an official announcement expected imminently. It is reported that the deal will be completed by Saturday. Accompanying Walsh on his journey was his agent, Zouhair Essikal, as well as his wife, Aislinn Konig, who followed the Yokohama Marinos' Instagram account, hinting at the imminent move.
Since joining Mechelen in 2020, Walsh has made 133 appearances, contributing nine goals and 15 assists. However, he has seen limited playtime this season, appearing in only seven matches. The move to Yokohama F. Marinos signifies a new chapter for Walsh, who has previously spent his career in Belgium, playing for clubs like Zulte Waregem and KRC Genk. The transfer is poised to enhance his career while also bringing his talents to the Japanese league.
