Hansi Flick Expresses Frustration After Barcelona's Draw with Atletico Madrid
Posted on February 26, 2025
FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick voiced his frustration following a dramatic 4-4 draw against Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey semifinals. The match, held at Montjuic, saw Barcelona initially fall behind 2-0 within the first six minutes due to goals from Julian Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann. However, Flick's side staged a remarkable comeback to take a 4-2 lead, only to concede twice in the final minutes, ultimately allowing Atletico to tie the match.
In his post-match comments, Flick expressed disappointment with his players, stating, "After what has happened, I am disappointed with the result. We played great football and created a lot of chances... but in the end, we conceded too many chances." He acknowledged the attacking prowess of Atletico and emphasized the need for his team to tighten their defense, particularly after he had warned them at halftime about the dangers posed by their opponents.
Flick remains optimistic about the upcoming second leg, scheduled for April 2 at the Metropolitano Stadium. He urged his players to replicate the dominant performance they displayed for the majority of the match. "I hope we win," he stated confidently, highlighting the growth of his young squad this season. Despite the frustrations of the last ten minutes of the match, Flick noted that he was largely pleased with his team's performance and remains focused on building their confidence as they prepare for their next league match against Real Sociedad.
