Alex Pastoor Chooses Indonesia National Team Over Heerenveen
Posted on March 04, 2025
Alex Pastoor, the Dutch coach, has turned down an opportunity to manage SC Heerenveen in favor of focusing on his role with the Indonesia national team. Heerenveen, currently seeking a new manager following the departure of Robin van Persie, had identified Pastoor as their top candidate. Despite interest from Heerenveen's Technical Director Johan Hansma, Pastoor has made it clear that his priority lies with helping the Indonesian team under head coach Patrick Kluivert.
Pastoor's commitment to the Indonesian side was solidified when he was appointed as an assistant coach in January, alongside Danny Landzaat. Their first major challenge will be in March, as they prepare for crucial World Cup qualifying matches against Australia and Bahrain in Group C. Heerenveen's manager, Ferry De Haan, expressed disappointment at Pastoor's decision but acknowledged his potential as a short-term solution for the club.
The decision reflects Pastoor's dedication to his current role, highlighting his focus on developing Indonesian football. His experience and expertise, cultivated through various managerial positions in the Netherlands, will be vital as the national team aims to enhance its performance on the international stage.
