Ange Postecoglou Addresses Referee Decisions Following Tottenham's Defeat to Fulham
Posted on March 17, 2025
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou expressed his frustration with the lack of attention given to controversial refereeing decisions after his team's 2-0 loss to Fulham at Craven Cottage. Following the match, Postecoglou highlighted a notable incident involving a challenge by Fulham's Calvin Bassey on Spurs' Lucas Bergvall in the penalty area. He stated, "I'll leave that to the officials, but I will say that we don't carry on like a lot of other clubs, and I think that hurts us for sure." He contrasted Spurs' situation with other clubs, indicating that when decisions go against them, it often goes unnoticed, whereas any favorable decision garners significant media attention.
The defeat against Fulham marked another setback for Tottenham, who have now lost six consecutive matches before international breaks. In the aftermath of the match, Postecoglou took the opportunity to address the performance of certain players, specifically Yves Bissouma, who was substituted at halftime due to a lackluster display. The manager noted the need for Bissouma to be more dominant on the ball, acknowledging that confidence issues may be impacting his performance. "It's fair to say, Biss and a few others are probably lacking a bit of confidence," Postecoglou remarked, stressing the importance of stepping up in crucial moments of the season.
As Tottenham sits in 13th place, the prospect of qualifying for European competition through the Premier League appears increasingly unlikely, with just 10 points collected from their last 10 games. However, Postecoglou remains focused on ensuring that the remaining nine matches in the league do not further diminish the team's standing. He emphasized the need to concentrate on their domestic form, stating, "We can't let this league season go the way it has. We have lost way too many games. Unacceptable." With the Europa League still a potential route to the Champions League, Postecoglou is determined to motivate his squad to end the season on a high note.
