Ryan Gravenberch Withdraws from Netherlands Squad Due to Injury

Posted on March 20, 2025

Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has been forced to withdraw from the Netherlands national team ahead of their UEFA Nations League quarterfinal matches against Spain due to an injury sustained during the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United. The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed that Gravenberch left the training camp after experiencing ongoing issues from the weekend's match, which prevents him from participating in the upcoming fixtures.

Gravenberch, who has been a key player for Liverpool this season, having started every league match, will now focus on his recovery as he aims to return to fitness in time for the club's next match against Everton on April 2. The Netherlands will host Spain in the first leg of the quarterfinal on Thursday in Rotterdam, followed by the second leg in Valencia on Sunday.

In Gravenberch's absence, Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman is expected to rely on experienced players like Memphis Depay and Frenkie de Jong. Depay, making his return to the national team after a break, is on the cusp of becoming the country's record goalscorer, while de Jong has recovered from illness and expressed readiness to play despite previous concerns over an ankle injury. The team will look to secure a strong performance against a competitive Spanish side in the crucial knockout stage of the tournament.
