Chelsea Secures Double Signing of Sporting Midfielders Quenda and Essugo
Posted on March 20, 2025
Chelsea FC has finalized the acquisition of two promising midfielders from Sporting Lisbon, Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo, for a total fee of approximately £62.4 million. The deal, confirmed by Sporting, includes a transfer fee of up to £44 million for 17-year-old winger Quenda, who will remain with Sporting until the conclusion of the 2025-26 season. Quenda, who has recently made his Champions League debut, has been making waves in the Portuguese league this season.
Dario Essugo, a 20-year-old defensive midfielder, is set to join Chelsea this summer after completing a loan spell at Las Palmas. His transfer fee is reported to be £18.4 million. Despite a successful stint in Spain, Essugo has faced some disciplinary challenges, accumulating two red cards in his last four matches. Chelsea fans may see him joining the squad for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States this summer.
These signings continue Chelsea’s strategy of investing in young talent, as they previously secured deals for other 17-year-olds, including Brazilian Estevao Willian and Ecuadorian Kendry Paez, who will also be part of the team next season. With these moves, the club aims to bolster its midfield options and build a strong foundation for the future.
