Napoli Dominates Empoli 3-0, McTominay and Lukaku Shine
Posted on April 15, 2025
Napoli secured a convincing 3-0 victory against Empoli on Monday, propelling them back within three points of Serie A leaders Inter Milan. Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku were instrumental in the win, with both players contributing significantly to Napoli's dominant performance.
The match started strong for Napoli, who took the lead in just 18 minutes. Lukaku, showcasing his strength, played a key role in the build-up, setting up McTominay for a low long-range shot that slipped past Empoli's goalkeeper, Devis Vasquez. This early goal set the tone for Napoli, who continued to control the game.
Lukaku then converted his own chance in the 56th minute, finishing calmly after receiving a well-placed through ball from Mathias Olivera. Just five minutes later, he assisted McTominay again, this time delivering a precise cross that McTominay headed home, solidifying Napoli's lead.
This victory not only keeps Napoli's title hopes alive but also places Empoli in a precarious position as they sit 19th in the league, two points adrift from safety with just six matches remaining. Napoli's performance was a stark reminder of their attacking prowess and ambition in the title race.
Lukaku's impressive display, contributing to three goals, has now placed him among a select group of players in Europe's top five leagues to reach double figures in both goals and assists this season, complementing his 12 goals with 10 assists. His resurgence has been a critical factor for Napoli as they continue to chase Inter, who previously extended their lead at the top with a win over Cagliari.
As the Serie A season approaches its climax, Napoli's determination and attacking firepower will be crucial as they aim to close the gap on Inter and secure the Scudetto.
