Arda Güler's Goal Secures Narrow Win for Real Madrid Over Getafe

Posted on April 24, 2025

Real Madrid managed a tense 1-0 victory against Getafe, thanks to a first-half strike from Arda Güler, keeping their La Liga title hopes alive as they remain four points behind leaders Barcelona. The match, held at the Estadio Coliseum, was crucial for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who needed the win to maintain pressure in the title race with only five matches left in the season.

Güler opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a well-placed shot from the edge of the box, showcasing his talent and composure. Despite resting several key players in preparation for the upcoming Copa del Rey final against Barcelona, Madrid controlled much of the game but struggled to extend their lead due to a resilient Getafe defense. Vinicius Junior was particularly active, creating multiple chances and being denied by Getafe’s goalkeeper David Soria on two occasions.

As the match progressed, Real Madrid faced a nervy finish. Although they dominated possession and created opportunities to increase their advantage, they could not capitalize, leading to increased pressure from Getafe. The home side nearly equalized in the 72nd minute when Mauro Arambarri missed a golden opportunity, mishitting a shot set up perfectly by Borja Mayoral.

In the dying moments, Getafe pressed for an equalizer, forcing Real’s goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to make crucial saves to maintain the clean sheet. This victory marked Madrid's first consecutive wins in a month, providing a much-needed boost in confidence ahead of their Copa del Rey showdown.

With this win, Real Madrid solidified their second position in La Liga with 72 points, nine points clear of third-placed Atletico Madrid. The team will need to build on this momentum as they prepare for a pivotal cup final against their fierce rivals Barcelona.
