James Maddison's Injury Woes Raise Concerns Ahead of Bodo/Glimt Clash

Posted on May 05, 2025

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has expressed concern over James Maddison's injury, stating that the situation "does not look great" as the team prepares for the crucial Europa League semi-final second leg against Bodo/Glimt. Maddison, who scored during Tottenham's 3-1 victory in the first leg, was substituted in the second half due to the injury and did not participate in the team's recent 1-1 draw against West Ham in the Premier League.

Postecoglou revealed that the club is awaiting further information about Maddison's condition, with hopes for clarity expected soon. "It doesn't look promising, but I'll just wait and see," he mentioned after the match. The absence of Maddison would be a significant blow for Spurs, who are vying for a place in the Europa League final.

In addition to Maddison's injury, Postecoglou confirmed that striker Dominic Solanke also missed the West Ham match due to a knock. However, there is optimism regarding Solanke's return for the upcoming clash, with Postecoglou stating, "Dom is improving," and the medical team expecting him to be ready for Thursday.

The Spurs captain, Son Heung-min, has returned to training after a month-long injury layoff, but midfielder Lucas Bergvall is likely to miss the remainder of the season due to an ankle injury. Postecoglou made significant rotations in the squad for the West Ham match, emphasizing the need to manage player fitness amid a hectic schedule.

Tottenham currently sits 16th in the Premier League standings, and with three games remaining, their focus is on advancing in the Europa League as they seek to secure the club's first major trophy since 2008. A successful outcome against Bodo/Glimt could set up a final clash against either Manchester United or Athletic Bilbao on May 21.
