Inter Miami Relinquishes Discovery Rights to Kevin De Bruyne
Posted on May 07, 2025
Inter Miami has decided to relinquish its option to negotiate with Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, leaving Chicago Fire in a favorable position to sign the Belgian international. Initially, Miami held De Bruyne on their "discovery list," which granted them exclusive negotiating rights within Major League Soccer (MLS). However, the club has chosen not to pursue his signing, meaning De Bruyne will not join the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Sergio Busquets at Miami.
De Bruyne, who announced his departure from Manchester City in April, is set to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season. With Inter Miami stepping aside, Chicago Fire now has the first opportunity to engage in talks with the 33-year-old midfielder. Reports indicate that De Bruyne's representatives are scheduled to meet with Chicago, currently positioned 11th in the Eastern Conference.
The decision by Inter Miami comes as a surprise, considering De Bruyne's impressive track record at Manchester City, where he has won 16 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2023. His unexpected departure from City also raised eyebrows, particularly as he expressed surprise at not being offered a new contract by the club.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on Chicago Fire as they look to secure De Bruyne’s signature, potentially adding a significant talent to their roster for the upcoming season.
