Barcelona Crowned LaLiga Champions Following Lamine Yamal's Brilliant Performance

Posted on May 16, 2025

Barcelona has been officially crowned champions of LaLiga after securing a 2-0 victory over local rivals Espanyol, thanks in large part to a stunning goal from 17-year-old Lamine Yamal. The win not only clinches the league title but also marks a cup and league double for head coach Hansi Flick in his inaugural season at the helm of the club.

Yamal opened the scoring in the 53rd minute with a spectacular curling strike from the edge of the box, placing the ball in the top corner of the net. His impressive performance was complemented by a late goal from fellow La Masia graduate Fermin Lopez, who scored in stoppage time after Yamal set him up, effectively sealing the match for Barcelona.

The victory was further aided by the dismissal of Espanyol's Leandro Cabrera, who received a red card with just ten minutes remaining, diminishing Espanyol's chances of mounting a comeback. This win allowed Barcelona to dethrone their arch-rivals Real Madrid, whom they had defeated in the recent Copa del Rey final.

With this title, Barcelona has secured their 28th Spanish championship, although they still trail behind Real Madrid’s record of 36 titles. Despite their success in the league and cup, Barcelona's hopes for a treble were dashed when they were eliminated from the Champions League by Inter Milan in a thrilling semi-final tie, losing 7-6 on aggregate.

As Barcelona prepares for their final two league matches, they will host Villarreal this Sunday before traveling to Athletic Club for their closing game of the season. The club's successful campaign has reignited excitement among fans and solidified Hansi Flick's position as a capable leader in his first year.
