Ruben Amorim Not at Risk of Being Sacked After Europa League Final Defeat

Posted on May 23, 2025

Despite Manchester United's disappointing loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, head coach Ruben Amorim is not at risk of losing his job. The defeat, which left United without European football for the upcoming season, has raised concerns among fans and analysts alike. However, club sources indicate that Amorim continues to have the full support of the management, as his appointment has been regarded as part of a long-term project.

Following the 1-0 defeat, Amorim stated that he would step down "the next day" without any discussion of compensation if the board and fans felt he was not the right fit for the club. He expressed confidence in his role and emphasized that he would not quit despite the challenges faced during the season. "I am confident in my job," he affirmed, underscoring his commitment to the club's vision.

Captain Bruno Fernandes echoed support for Amorim, asserting that the manager had done many positive things since taking over from Erik ten Hag. Fernandes noted that while results are critical, players recognize the need for a positive environment and believe Amorim is the right person to restore Manchester United to a position of competitiveness.

Amorim took charge of Manchester United in November with the team sitting 13th in the Premier League but has seen them slip to 16th place by the end of the season. The club is now facing another summer of rebuilding, and Amorim will be tasked with revitalizing the squad to improve upon this year’s disappointing performance.

With the club's management backing him and players rallying around his leadership, Amorim's future seems secure for now, even as the team prepares for a challenging offseason ahead.
