Posted on May 23, 2025
Barcelona winger Raphinha has expressed his desire to retire at the club after signing a contract extension that will keep him at the La Liga side until 2028. The Brazilian international, who has had a remarkable season contributing significantly to the team's successes, stated that it's his "dream" to remain with Barcelona for the entirety of his career.
After joining Barcelona from Leeds United in 2022, Raphinha has made a significant impact, scoring 34 goals and providing 25 assists in just 56 appearances this season. His performances helped the team secure a domestic treble, including the La Liga title, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup. Reflecting on his journey, Raphinha shared, "It's something very special... feeling part of the Barca family for another year makes me feel very happy."
Initially facing scrutiny during his first two seasons in Spain for a lack of goals, Raphinha experienced a resurgence in the 2024-25 season, netting 18 league goals and playing a crucial role in Barcelona's run to the Champions League semi-finals. His impressive form has not gone unnoticed, with discussions about his candidacy for the Ballon d'Or alongside notable teammates.
Recognizing his increased responsibilities, Raphinha has also been named one of Barcelona's five team captains this season. He acknowledged the evolution he has undergone since joining the club and expressed his commitment to continuing to improve both as a player and as a leader.
As Barcelona prepares to conclude their season against Athletic Bilbao, Raphinha's extension solidifies his future with the club and emphasizes his ambition to continue contributing to their success in the years to come.
