Chelsea in Talks to Retain Jadon Sancho Amid Loan from Manchester United

Posted on May 30, 2025

Chelsea is actively negotiating with Jadon Sancho's representatives regarding new contract terms to keep the forward at Stamford Bridge. Sancho joined Chelsea on loan from Manchester United last August, and the club currently has a £25 million obligation to purchase him permanently. However, they also have the option to pay a £5 million penalty to forgo this obligation.

The 25-year-old winger has a year left on his lucrative contract with Manchester United, reportedly worth up to £300,000 per week, with an option for an additional year. While Chelsea is keen to retain Sancho, they are unable to match his current wages due to their policy of offering lower base salaries with performance-based incentives.

Sancho recently made a significant impact in Chelsea's 4-1 UEFA Conference League final victory over Real Betis, scoring his fifth goal of the season and contributing ten assists across all competitions. His performance in the final showcased his potential and importance to the team, further motivating Chelsea to secure his future.

Despite Chelsea's desire to keep him, there remains a possibility that Sancho could return to Manchester United if contract negotiations do not meet his expectations. Chelsea's approach contrasts with United's financial structure, making it crucial for the Blues to find a compromise that fits within their wage framework.

As the transfer window approaches, Chelsea is also pursuing additional signings, including Ipswich striker Liam Delap, as they aim to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season while navigating the complexities of player contracts and obligations.
