Ryan Mason Appointed Head Coach of West Bromwich Albion

Posted on June 03, 2025

West Bromwich Albion has officially announced the appointment of Ryan Mason as their new head coach. The 33-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur coach joins the Championship side on a three-year deal, following the dismissal of Tony Mowbray on April 21. Mason's arrival marks the end of his seven-year coaching tenure at Tottenham, where he progressed through the ranks from player to coach.

In a statement, Mason expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity, saying, "This is a huge club with a fantastic infrastructure and an incredible fanbase, and I am excited about what we can achieve together." He emphasized his belief that West Brom is the perfect place for him to further his coaching career, bringing a strong sense of ambition and dedication to the role.

Mason's coaching journey began in April 2018 at Tottenham, where he played a vital role in the academy before stepping in as interim first-team manager after José Mourinho's departure in 2021. He later took on the same role again following Antonio Conte's exit in 2023 and remained a senior coach under Ange Postecoglou.

His immediate challenge at West Brom will be to guide the team back to the Premier League after they narrowly missed out on the playoffs last season. To support him, Mason has brought in Nigel Gibbs as his assistant from Reading and Sam Pooley from Rangers as the first-team coach and head of performance.

As Mason takes charge, West Brom fans will be hopeful for a successful campaign ahead as the club aims to reclaim its top-flight status.
