England to Train in Heated Tents to Prepare for World Cup Conditions
Posted on June 03, 2025
England's national football team is implementing a unique training strategy as they prepare for the upcoming World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Under the guidance of head coach Thomas Tuchel, the squad will utilize heated tents during their training camp in Girona, Spain, to simulate the hot and humid conditions they may encounter during the tournament.
The team is set to play Andorra in a World Cup qualifier and will follow that with a friendly against Senegal at Nottingham Forest's City Ground. The training in heated environments aims to assess how players cope with extreme temperatures, as they will undergo fitness tests on exercise bikes inside the tents.
Tuchel emphasized the importance of acclimatization, stating, "I expect my players to suffer in the tournament's conditions." He plans to attend the Club World Cup in the United States this summer to further evaluate the climate and its impact on player performance. Tuchel noted, "It is important to see matches now in America, and in Miami at three in the afternoon," to better understand how to manage player hydration and recovery.
Warnings have been issued regarding potentially dangerous temperature levels at 14 of the 16 stadiums set to host World Cup matches, particularly in cities like Dallas, where June and July temperatures often exceed 28°C.
With England having won their first two World Cup qualifiers under Tuchel and currently sitting atop Group K, the team's preparation is crucial as they look to make a significant impact at the World Cup. The innovative training methods reflect a proactive approach to ensure players are ready for the challenges ahead.
