Matheus Cunha Completes £62.5m Move to Manchester United
Posted on June 13, 2025
Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha has officially joined Manchester United from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a transfer fee of £62.5 million. The 26-year-old expressed his excitement about the move, describing it as a "dream" come true. United activated a release clause in Cunha's contract, allowing him to leave Wolves ahead of the official end of his contract.
Cunha, who has signed a five-year deal with the option for an additional year, reflected on his childhood admiration for Manchester United, stating, "Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games, United was my favourite English team." He thanked his family and supporters for helping him achieve this milestone in his career.
During his time at Wolves, Cunha scored 31 goals in 76 appearances across all competitions after joining from Atletico Madrid in 2023. His performance made him a key player for the club, contributing significantly to their attacking play. United's director of football, Jason Wilcox, indicated that securing Cunha was one of their main priorities for the summer transfer window, especially after a disappointing season where they finished with a record low of 44 goals in the Premier League.
Manager Ruben Amorim is keen to enhance the squad's attacking capabilities, and Cunha's versatility will be a valuable asset. Although not a traditional center-forward, he has demonstrated his scoring ability and playmaking skills, making him a suitable fit for United's system. Cunha's arrival comes at a crucial time as United seeks to rebuild and improve their performance after failing to qualify for European competitions next season.
With Cunha joining the ranks, fans are optimistic that his technical ability and goal-scoring prowess will reinvigorate Manchester United's attack as they prepare for the upcoming season.
