Kevin de Bruyne Joins Napoli After Departing Manchester City
Posted on June 13, 2025
Kevin de Bruyne has officially signed with Napoli following his exit from Manchester City at the conclusion of the Premier League season. The 33-year-old Belgian midfielder made the move as a free agent, opting for the Italian club over an offer from Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire. This transfer allows him to continue competing at the highest level, including participating in the Champions League next season.
De Bruyne will reunite with former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Antonio Conte, who is currently at the helm of Napoli. The club celebrated De Bruyne's arrival with a striking announcement, featuring a digital image of him crowned as "King Kev."
During his illustrious ten-year tenure at Manchester City, De Bruyne played a crucial role in the club's success, helping them secure 19 major trophies, including six Premier League titles, five League Cups, two FA Cups, and the club's first Champions League title in 2023. He leaves City after making 422 appearances and scoring 108 goals.
Reflecting on his time at City, De Bruyne expressed pride in his contributions and the memories created, stating, "It's been an unbelievable ride and an absolute pleasure." He acknowledged Manchester as his home and praised the club for its achievements during his time there.
As Manchester City moves forward, they have already begun to fill the creative void left by De Bruyne by signing midfielders Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan and Rayan Cherki from Lyon. De Bruyne's new chapter at Napoli will see him join a squad that includes former Premier League players Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour, as they look to build on their recent Serie A title triumph.
