Spurs Chairman Reflects on Postecoglou's Dismissal

Posted on June 18, 2025

Tottenham Hotspur’s chairman, Daniel Levy, recently expressed the emotional complexity surrounding the decision to part ways with manager Ange Postecoglou. This decision came just 16 days after Postecoglou led the team to a 1-0 victory over Manchester United, securing the club's first major trophy in 17 years. Despite this success, the club's disappointing domestic performance, which saw them finish 17th in the Premier League, necessitated a change. Levy acknowledged this was a tough call, highlighting his gratitude for Postecoglou's contributions, particularly during his first season when Spurs finished fifth and the second season's trophy win.

Levy stated, "I don't regret appointing Ange; I'm very grateful to him," but emphasized the need for competitiveness across all competitions. He reflected on the emotional weight of the decision, admitting it was challenging but felt necessary for the club’s future. With a management history spanning over 25 years, Levy has now overseen 13 permanent managers at Tottenham, illustrating the high stakes and pressures associated with his role.

In the wake of Postecoglou's departure, former Brentford manager Thomas Frank has been appointed as the new head coach, signing a contract that will keep him at the club until 2028. Levy and Spurs’ new chief executive, Vinai Venkatesham, were decisive in selecting Frank, who was deemed the top candidate after an extensive search process. Levy expressed optimism about Frank's potential, citing his intelligence, communication skills, and ability to develop young talent as key attributes that will benefit the squad as they look to build on last season's success.
