PSG Advances to Last 16 of Club World Cup with 2-0 Victory Over Seattle Sounders

Posted on June 24, 2025

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured a comfortable 2-0 win against the Seattle Sounders, advancing to the last 16 of the Club World Cup. The match, held at Lumen Field, saw Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Achraf Hakimi score for the European champions, helping them bounce back after a previous defeat to Botafogo.

Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring in the 35th minute, deflecting a shot from Vitinha into the net. Hakimi then doubled PSG's lead in the 66th minute, finishing off a well-constructed play initiated by substitute Bradley Barcola. The French champions' victory was achieved without them playing at their full potential, showcasing their strength against the MLS side.

PSG's coach, Luis Enrique, acknowledged the difficulties posed by the match, particularly the challenging pitch conditions that limited their fluidity. He praised the Sounders for their intensity and quality throughout the game, indicating that it was a tough contest for his team.

With this victory, PSG topped their group on goal difference, setting up a clash against the Group A runners-up in Atlanta next Sunday. However, they will have to continue their campaign without star player Ousmane Dembele, who remains sidelined due to injury. The Sounders, needing a significant win to advance, struggled to create clear opportunities and ultimately fell short against the French giants.
