Manchester United's £62.5m Bid for Bryan Mbeumo Rejected by Brentford

Posted on June 28, 2025

Manchester United's second offer for Bryan Mbeumo, valued at £62.5 million, has been turned down by Brentford. The proposal included £55 million upfront along with an additional £7.5 million in performance-related add-ons. This follows an earlier bid of £45 million plus up to £10 million in add-ons that was also rejected.

The 25-year-old Cameroon forward had an outstanding season for Brentford, scoring a career-high 20 goals and providing nine assists, making him a key target for United as they seek to bolster their attacking options. United recently signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves for the same price of £62.5 million, which has set a benchmark for Brentford in negotiations.

Reports indicate that Brentford would prefer an upfront fee comparable to what Wolves received for Cunha before considering a sale, especially since Mbeumo has one year remaining on his contract. Additionally, Mbeumo's international commitments with Cameroon could hinder his availability for the initial weeks of the upcoming season, as he is expected to miss four weeks due to participating in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Mbeumo joined Brentford from French club Troyes in 2019 and has since made a significant impact, scoring 70 goals in 242 appearances. His contributions have been instrumental in helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League in 2021.

As Manchester United continues to pursue Mbeumo, they may face competition from other clubs, including Tottenham, where new manager Thomas Frank is reportedly interested in reuniting with the forward.
