Newcastle's £50m Bid for Joao Pedro Rejected by Brighton

Posted on June 28, 2025

Newcastle United's recent bid of approximately £50 million for Brazilian forward Joao Pedro has been rejected by Brighton & Hove Albion. The offer, which consisted of £45 million plus £5 million in potential add-ons, fell short of Brighton's valuation for the player. This move highlights Newcastle's ongoing interest in strengthening their attacking options ahead of their return to Champions League football.

Joao Pedro, who has attracted interest from several clubs including Chelsea, is known for his close friendship with Newcastle's Bruno Guimarães, which could play a role in his decision should a transfer materialize. However, reports indicate that Pedro is looking for a club where he would be guaranteed a starting position, which may complicate Newcastle's pursuit, particularly with competition for places among their current forwards.

The Magpies are keen to enhance their squad following a successful season and are expected to be active in the transfer market. Earlier this week, Newcastle's attempt to sign Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest was also rejected, with Forest valuing the player at £60 million.

Newcastle's management continues to evaluate other potential targets, including Johan Bakayoko from PSV, Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund, and Mohammed Kudus from West Ham, as they look to solidify their options ahead of a busy season. With the influx of Champions League revenue, Newcastle aims to make significant additions to their squad, ensuring they are competitive at both domestic and European levels.
