Everton Nears Deal for Villarreal Striker Thierno Barry

Posted on July 03, 2025

Everton is reportedly closing in on an agreement to sign Thierno Barry, the 22-year-old striker from Villarreal. The French Under-21 international has a £34.5 million release clause with the Spanish club, and it appears he is eager to make a move to Merseyside.

Barry had a productive season with Villarreal, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists in 38 appearances, helping the team secure a fifth-place finish in La Liga and qualify for the Champions League. His arrival at Everton would serve as a replacement for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who recently left the club after his contract expired. Additionally, Armando Broja has returned to Chelsea following the end of his loan spell, further necessitating Everton's pursuit of a new forward.

Originally from Lyon, Barry began his career at Sochaux before moving to Belgium's Beveren and then to Basel in the Swiss Super League. He joined Villarreal in August 2024 for approximately £13 million, and his development has attracted attention from clubs looking to bolster their attacking options.

As negotiations progress, Everton fans will be hopeful that Barry can adapt quickly to the Premier League and make a significant impact in the upcoming season. The club is actively seeking to strengthen its squad after a challenging campaign, and securing Barry could be a pivotal step in their rebuilding efforts.
