Thomas Partey Charged with Rape and Sexual Assault

Posted on July 05, 2025

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with multiple serious offenses, including five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, as confirmed by London's Metropolitan Police. The charges, which Partey denies, relate to incidents involving three women and reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022. He is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London on August 5.

Partey, who is now 32 years old, was first arrested in July 2022; however, his identity was not disclosed at that time as the investigation continued. He was allowed to play for Arsenal during this period. His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, stated that Partey has fully cooperated with law enforcement throughout the three-year investigation and is eager to clear his name. Due to the ongoing legal proceedings, he is unable to provide further comments.

After joining Arsenal in 2020 for £45 million, Partey spent five seasons with the club, making 52 appearances across all competitions last season. As of July 1, his contract with Arsenal has expired, making him a free agent. Arsenal has stated that they cannot comment on the situation due to the legal proceedings. The Metropolitan Police have stressed their commitment to supporting the women involved in this case and have urged anyone with more information to come forward.
