In this newly created position, Edu will oversee all football-related functions, including recruitment, performance, squad strategy, and player development. Edu, 47, enjoyed a successful playing career at Arsenal from 2001 to 2005, winning two Premier League titles. He returned to the Gunners in 2019 as technical director and was promoted to sporting director in November 2022, a role he held until his resignation in November 2024. Reflecting on his new opportunity, Edu expressed his excitement, stating he is honored by the trust placed in him and looks forward to building a competitive and sustainable football model aligned with Nottingham Forest's ambitions.
Nottingham Forest's owner, Evangelos Marinakis, who also owns Greek club Olympiakos and has been involved in discussions to purchase Brazilian side Vasco da Gama, aims to strengthen the club's presence both domestically and internationally.
