Luka Modric Set to Join AC Milan After Leaving Real Madrid
Posted on July 08, 2025
Luka Modric, the esteemed Croatian midfielder and former Ballon d'Or winner, is set to join AC Milan from Real Madrid following the conclusion of the Club World Cup. The announcement was made by Milan's manager, Massimiliano Allegri, who confirmed that Modric will arrive in August. The 39-year-old playmaker recently declared his intention to end his 13-year tenure with Real Madrid after the tournament in the United States.
During his time at Real Madrid, Modric achieved remarkable success, winning 28 major trophies, including six Champions League titles and four La Liga championships. He has been a pivotal figure for the team since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, and his experience and skill are expected to significantly bolster Milan's midfield, which finished eighth in Serie A last season.
Modric's desire to compete at the highest level is motivated by his ambition to participate in the upcoming 2026 World Cup. His move to Milan comes amid the club's restructuring, as they recently sold midfielder Tijjani Reijnders to Manchester City. Allegri remains optimistic about retaining key players like goalkeeper Mike Maignan and forward Rafael Leao, despite interest from other clubs.
The addition of Modric is seen as a significant step for AC Milan as they aim to improve their standing in Serie A and make a strong impact in European competitions. The club will kick off their league campaign against Cremonese on August 23, and Modric will be looking to make an immediate impact upon his arrival.
