Luka Modric Joins AC Milan on One-Year Deal After Leaving Real Madrid
Posted on July 15, 2025
Luka Modric has officially completed his move to AC Milan on a free transfer, marking the end of a remarkable 13-year tenure at Real Madrid. The 39-year-old midfielder has signed a contract with the Italian club that runs until June 2026, with an option for an additional year. Modric expressed his excitement about this new chapter in his career, stating he is "very happy" to join Milan.
During his illustrious spell at Real Madrid, Modric became one of the club's most decorated players, securing 28 trophies, including six UEFA Champions League titles and four La Liga championships. He also won the Ballon d'Or in 2018, underscoring his status as one of the best midfielders of his generation. Over 597 appearances for Real, Modric scored 43 goals, leaving a significant legacy before his departure.
His final match for Real Madrid was a disappointing 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup semi-finals. Moving to AC Milan offers Modric the opportunity to continue playing at a high level, especially with an eye on participating in the next World Cup, which will be hosted in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. AC Milan, who finished eighth in Serie A last season and missed out on European competition, will be hoping Modric's experience can help elevate the team’s performance in the upcoming campaign.
