Newcastle United Pursues Hugo Ekitike in Record-Breaking Transfer Bid
Posted on July 15, 2025
Newcastle United is reportedly exploring a significant move to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, with the potential deal expected to exceed £70 million. The 23-year-old striker, who enjoyed a successful season scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists, played a pivotal role in Frankfurt's third-place finish in the Bundesliga last season. This interest follows Newcastle's determination to bolster their squad ahead of their return to the Champions League.
Ekitike, who joined Frankfurt last summer after a loan spell from Paris Saint-Germain, is under contract for another four years, making him a valuable target for Newcastle. Despite their pursuit of Ekitike, the club has no intentions of selling last season's top scorer, Alexander Isak, who has garnered interest from various clubs, including Liverpool. Isak, a 25-year-old Sweden international, was signed from Real Sociedad for £63 million, currently marking Newcastle's record transfer.
The Magpies recently enhanced their squad by acquiring Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest for £55 million, aiming to strengthen their attacking options for the upcoming campaign. As Newcastle prepares for a competitive season in the Champions League, the addition of Ekitike could significantly enhance their offensive capabilities and provide a formidable partnership alongside Isak. The club's ambition to secure top-tier talent reflects their growing stature in English football following their impressive fifth-place finish in the Premier League last season.
