Jude Bellingham Undergoes Successful Shoulder Surgery, Faces Extended Recovery

Posted on July 17, 2025

Jude Bellingham, the England and Real Madrid midfielder, has successfully undergone surgery to address a long-standing shoulder issue that has troubled him since 2023. The 22-year-old athlete is expected to miss the entirety of Real Madrid's pre-season and at least the first six weeks of the upcoming La Liga campaign. This absence will include crucial World Cup qualifiers for England against Andorra and Serbia in September.

Bellingham has been dealing with shoulder problems since dislocating it during a match against Rayo Vallecano. Despite wearing strapping and managing pain, he expressed frustration about playing with a sling and was eager for a resolution. The surgery was strategically scheduled after the Club World Cup in the United States, where Real Madrid was eliminated in the semi-finals by Paris Saint-Germain.

Having joined Real from Borussia Dortmund for a staggering £115 million, Bellingham made a significant impact in his first season, helping the club secure both the La Liga title and the Champions League. He scored 23 goals in 43 appearances during that season and followed up with 15 goals in 58 games last year. As Real Madrid prepares for their La Liga opener against Osasuna on August 19, the club will be without Bellingham, who will now focus on rehabilitation before returning to training.
