Declan Rice Backs Noni Madueke to Surprise Arsenal Fans
Posted on July 25, 2025
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has come out in support of new signing Noni Madueke, emphasizing that the young winger will surprise fans with his talent following a wave of backlash against his acquisition. Madueke, who joined Arsenal from Chelsea for an initial fee of £48.5 million, faced criticism on social media, with the hashtag #NoToMadueke trending and a petition garnering over 5,000 signatures opposing his signing.
Despite the negativity, Rice expressed confidence in Madueke's abilities, stating, "I know how driven he is... He’s hungry and wants to play for Arsenal, and that’s the type of player we want." He believes that Madueke possesses the potential to shock many with his performances this season, highlighting his desire to prove his worth at the club.
Rice further noted that the club had made efforts to welcome Madueke, including a personal letter he wrote to him upon his signing. The 23-year-old winger is expected to bolster Arsenal's attacking options, particularly in supporting Bukayo Saka on the right wing and competing with Gabriel Martinelli for a starting position on the left.
Madueke's track record at Chelsea, where he scored 20 goals in 92 appearances over the past two seasons, suggests he has the capability to make a significant impact. Rice pointed out that Madueke's ability to take on defenders is a crucial asset, especially as Arsenal aims to improve their attacking depth after struggling with injuries last season.
With Arsenal actively enhancing their squad through various signings, including Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard, Rice is determined to elevate his own performance as well. After concluding last season with nine goals and ten assists, he aims to build on that success and contribute even more significantly in the upcoming campaign.
As Arsenal prepares for the new season, the anticipation surrounding Madueke’s arrival and Rice’s expectations could play a pivotal role in the team's quest for silverware this year.
