Wrexham Makes Ambitious Move for Christian Eriksen
Posted on July 26, 2025
Wrexham has made a surprising approach to sign Christian Eriksen, the Danish midfielder who recently became a free agent after leaving Manchester United at the end of the 2024-25 season. The club, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, is eager to bolster its squad as it prepares to compete in the Championship for the first time in 44 years.
Eriksen, 33, has a wealth of experience with 144 caps for Denmark and has enjoyed a successful club career with notable stints at Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur, and Brentford before joining Manchester United. Last season, he made 35 appearances for United, scoring five goals, but is now looking for his next opportunity after his contract expired.
According to Eriksen's agent, Martin Schoots, while Wrexham's project is "hugely impressive," the midfielder is still keen on playing in a top-tier competition and would prefer to remain in Western Europe. Wrexham’s recent signings, including goalkeeper Danny Ward and midfielder Lewis O'Brien, indicate the club's ambition to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season.
Under manager Phil Parkinson, Wrexham has enjoyed three consecutive promotions, culminating in their return to the second tier. If they can convince Eriksen to join, it would be a significant boost for the club as they aim to establish themselves in the Championship.
Wrexham's 2025-26 campaign kicks off against newly-relegated Southampton at St Mary's Stadium on August 9, and securing a player of Eriksen's caliber would send a strong message about their intentions in the league. However, it remains to be seen whether Eriksen will prioritize playing in the Championship or seek opportunities in higher divisions.
