Marcus Rashford Remains Positive Following Early Substitution on Barcelona Debut
Posted on July 28, 2025
Marcus Rashford has addressed his early substitution after just 33 minutes during his debut for Barcelona in a friendly match against Vissel Kobe. Initially starting on the bench, Rashford was brought on at halftime as part of a complete squad overhaul by head coach Hansi Flick. Although his time on the pitch was cut short, he managed to make an impactful contribution by assisting fellow new signing Roony Bardghji in Barcelona's 3-1 victory.
Following the match, Rashford expressed his satisfaction with the opportunity to play in front of the fans, emphasizing the importance of using the match to build his physical fitness. “I feel very good, a good performance, and it was truly wonderful to play in front of the fans,” he stated. Rashford acknowledged the need to adapt to Barcelona's playing style and mentioned that he is looking forward to upcoming matches.
When asked about his preferred position, Rashford indicated that he enjoys playing on the left side but is versatile enough to fill various roles as needed. He underlined his willingness to listen to Flick's guidance to maximize his contributions to the team.
Flick later explained the decision behind Rashford's early exit, citing his limited playing time in recent months due to injuries, which influenced the strategy to substitute him after a short stint on the field. The coach also wanted to provide another player, Gerard Martin, with some minutes after returning from injury.
Despite the brief appearance, Rashford's debut reflects his determination to integrate quickly into Barcelona, and he remains optimistic about making a significant impact in the upcoming season as he competes for a place in a squad that includes stars like Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski.
