Al-Nassr Completes £43.7 Million Deal for Joao Felix from Chelsea
Posted on July 28, 2025
Al-Nassr has finalized a deal worth up to £43.7 million to sign Portuguese forward Joao Felix from Chelsea. The 25-year-old has received permission to travel to Riyadh for his medical examination, marking a significant move that will see him team up with fellow Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo at the Saudi Pro League club.
Felix's transfer comes after a complex journey; Chelsea initially acquired him from Atletico Madrid for £45 million last summer. He spent part of the last season on loan at AC Milan, costing Chelsea an additional £5 million. This sale represents a recovery of the initial investment for Chelsea, who have been active in the transfer market this summer to balance their finances.
The move is part of Chelsea's strategy to raise funds, having already sold several players, including goalkeepers Djordje Petrovic and Kepa Arrizabalaga, as well as winger Noni Madueke, totaling around £130 million. The club is under pressure from UEFA to achieve a "positive transfer balance" after previously being fined £27 million due to financial compliance issues. This situation necessitates further player sales, with additional names like Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell also being discussed as potential departures.
As Chelsea looks to navigate the transfer landscape, they have also invested heavily in new signings, totaling £212 million, including players like Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens. However, they face the challenge of ensuring they can register new signings for the upcoming Champions League season, a goal that remains contingent on their financial compliance.
