Thomas Müller Set to Join Vancouver Whitecaps After Leaving Bayern Munich
Posted on July 30, 2025
Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller is on the verge of joining the Vancouver Whitecaps following his departure from the Bavarian club on a free transfer. The 34-year-old forward, who has spent his entire professional career at Bayern, is expected to sign a two-year contract with the Major League Soccer (MLS) side, marking a new chapter in his illustrious career.
Müller's exit from Bayern was a significant decision for both parties, as the club opted not to renew his contract earlier this year. He played his last match for Bayern during the Club World Cup, coming off the bench in a quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain. Despite his longstanding contributions and numerous trophies with the team, Bayern felt it was time to part ways with the veteran forward, who has expressed his intention to continue playing rather than retire.
Reports confirm that Müller has agreed to terms with the Whitecaps, and the club has also settled the discovery rights for him with FC Cincinnati. Notably, the move to MLS had been anticipated, with a previous offer from Sydney FC in the A-League also being considered. Given his skills and fitness, Müller is expected to make a significant impact in the MLS.
As Müller prepares for this new adventure, he will have the opportunity to connect with former teammate Alphonso Davies, who joined Bayern from the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich is in search of a replacement for Müller, having recently signed Luis Diaz from Liverpool, but they have yet to find a direct successor to fill the leadership void he leaves behind. Negotiations are ongoing for potential replacements, including VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade, although Stuttgart has so far resisted selling him.
Müller's move to the Whitecaps not only signifies a fresh start for the player but also adds excitement to the MLS as he brings his wealth of experience and talent to North America.
