Manchester United Eyes Benjamin Sesko as Top Striker Target Amid Newcastle Interest
Posted on July 31, 2025
Manchester United has identified RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko as their primary target for bolstering their attacking options this summer. As the club engages in initial discussions with Leipzig, it appears that Sesko, who is highly regarded for his physical attributes and scoring potential, leans towards a move to Old Trafford rather than a rival interest from Newcastle United.
The 22-year-old forward has garnered attention due to his impressive performance, scoring 21 goals across all competitions last season. United's recruitment director, Christopher Vivell, who previously scouted Sesko during his time at Red Bull Salzburg, is leading the charge for this signing. While United is keen on acquiring Sesko, financial negotiations could prove challenging. The club is also exploring other striker options, such as Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa and Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson, but the pricing for these players has been considered prohibitive.
Leipzig is expected to use the recent transfer fee for Hugo Ekitike, who moved to Liverpool for £69 million plus additional add-ons, as a yardstick for Sesko’s value. Despite having a gentleman's agreement with Leipzig that allows him to leave for the right offer, the financial structure of the deal remains a crucial factor.
Sesko's profile is often compared to that of Erling Haaland; at 6 feet 4 inches tall, he possesses the physicality to act as a target man while also demonstrating explosive pace, making him a versatile asset in the attacking lineup. His speed and ability to hold up the ball would complement Manchester United's strategy of injecting pace into their forward line, especially after the recent addition of Bryan Mbeumo.
As United continues to pursue Sesko, the club remains focused on strengthening their squad ahead of the new season, with hopes that a favorable agreement can be reached to secure the talented Slovenian striker.
