Newcastle Sets Deadline for Sesko as Man Utd Prepares to Hijack Deal

Posted on August 05, 2025

Newcastle United is reportedly looking to secure a swift decision from RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko amid strong interest from Manchester United. The Magpies have set a deadline of 48 hours for Sesko to provide clarity on his intentions, particularly in light of ongoing concerns about Alexander Isak's future at the club. Isak has not participated in Newcastle's pre-season tour of Asia, as he explores a potential exit with Liverpool expressing significant interest, including a hefty initial bid of £110 million.

With Liverpool's pursuit of Isak intensifying, Newcastle has ramped up its efforts to bring in Sesko, recently making an €80 million (£70 million) offer that was rejected by Leipzig. The Bundesliga club is holding out for a higher fee, ideally around €90 million (£78 million), along with favorable terms that include a sell-on clause. Newcastle is reportedly optimistic about returning with an improved offer but is keen to avoid a prolonged negotiation process, especially as they are aware of Sesko's inclination towards joining Manchester United.

Manchester United is poised to make its move, having already initiated club-to-club discussions with Leipzig. Reports suggest that United intends to outbid Newcastle, with plans for an offer worth around €84 million (£73 million), including add-ons. Despite lacking European football for the upcoming season, Sesko seems attracted to the prospect of playing for United and contributing to manager Ruben Amorim’s project. The situation is developing rapidly, with both Premier League clubs vying for the talented 22-year-old striker, creating an urgent and competitive transfer environment.
