Posted on August 20, 2025
Mohamed Salah has been awarded the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) men's player of the year for the third time in his career, while Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers has been named the young player of the year. This recognition reflects Salah's outstanding performance during the 2024-25 season, where he played a pivotal role in helping Liverpool secure the Premier League title.
At 33, Salah becomes the first player to win the PFA men's player of the year award three times, highlighting his consistent excellence in the league. Last season, he topped the Premier League scoring charts with 29 goals and provided 18 assists, solidifying his status as one of the top players in the game. Reflecting on his journey, Salah expressed gratitude for the support he received throughout his career, noting that while he dreamed of becoming a footballer in his youth in Egypt, he never anticipated achieving such heights.
Morgan Rogers, 23, has emerged as a rising star in the Premier League, becoming the fifth Aston Villa player to receive the young player of the year award. After joining Villa from Middlesbrough for around £15 million in February 2024, Rogers quickly established himself as a vital player under manager Unai Emery, featuring 54 times and scoring 14 goals across all competitions. He expressed a desire to follow in the footsteps of great players and emphasized that while he appreciates the recognition, there is still much more to achieve in his career.
Additionally, former England manager Gareth Southgate received the PFA merit award for his contributions to football, particularly his achievements with the national team. Under Southgate’s leadership, England reached the finals of Euro 2020 and Euro 2024, as well as the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup, marking a significant era for the national side.
The PFA awards ceremony also celebrated other achievements in football, with standout performances recognized across various categories, including team selections and individual accolades for players in different leagues.
