Brentford Rejects Newcastle's £40 Million Bid for Yoane Wissa
Posted on August 21, 2025
Brentford has turned down an improved £40 million bid from Newcastle United for striker Yoane Wissa. The proposal included an initial fee of £35 million, supplemented by £5 million in add-ons, but sources indicate that it fell short of Brentford's valuation for the 28-year-old forward. This development comes after Wissa held discussions with Brentford's owner, Matthew Benham, which prompted renewed negotiations between the clubs.
Wissa, who enjoyed a successful season with 19 goals in the Premier League last year, has expressed a strong desire to move to Newcastle. His commitment to the transfer was underscored when he deleted all Brentford-related content from his Instagram account, signaling his intent for a change. Earlier this summer, Wissa had even flown home early from Brentford's pre-season training camp in Portugal, threatening to refuse to train or play for the club unless his move to St. James' Park was sanctioned.
Despite Brentford's refusal to let him go, relations between the club and Wissa have improved slightly, allowing him to return to first-team training while still making it clear that he wants to join Newcastle. Wissa had expected his transfer to be finalized, especially after Brentford completed the signing of Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth, which he believed would pave the way for his own departure. With fellow forward Bryan Mbeumo already having left for Manchester United, Brentford may need to reconsider their stance as they navigate the transfer window.
