Nottingham Forest Signs Douglas Luiz on Loan from Juventus

Posted on August 22, 2025

Nottingham Forest has secured the services of Brazil midfielder Douglas Luiz on a season-long loan from Juventus, which includes a conditional obligation for a permanent transfer next summer. The 27-year-old joins Forest after a year at Juventus, where he moved for £42.35 million from Aston Villa, where he had established himself as a key player over five seasons.

Luiz expressed his enthusiasm for the move, citing the ambition of Nottingham Forest as a major factor in his decision to return to the Premier League. "I am so excited to start with the team and give my best for the shirt and the fans," he stated, highlighting his eagerness to contribute to the club's goals as they prepare for Europa League competition this season.

This transfer marks part of a significant spending spree by Forest, who have invested around £140 million in seven new players this summer in response to manager Nuno Espirito Santo's recent comments regarding the club's recruitment strategy. In addition to Luiz, the club has welcomed other talents, including England Under-21 winger Omari Hutchinson and midfielder James McAtee, indicating a strong commitment to enhancing their squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Luiz's journey in the Premier League began with Manchester City in 2017, followed by a loan spell in Spain with Girona, before he settled at Aston Villa. He has represented Brazil on 18 occasions and was part of the squad that won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. This move to Nottingham Forest represents a new chapter for Luiz as he aims to showcase his skills and further his career in English football.
