Chelsea Hijacks Leeds' Loan Move for Facundo Buonanotte

Posted on August 30, 2025

Chelsea is closing in on a deal to sign Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton on a season-long loan, surprising many by intercepting the player's expected move to Leeds United. The 20-year-old Argentine, who previously spent the last season on loan at Leicester City, is seen as a promising addition to Chelsea's attacking options.

Buonanotte had a solid campaign at Leicester, contributing six goals and three assists in 35 appearances, despite the team facing relegation to the Championship. His performance has drawn attention from several clubs, but Chelsea's move reflects their strategy to bolster their squad with young talent, particularly players they have connections with from previous roles, including co-sporting director Paul Winstanley.

In addition to Buonanotte, Chelsea is also looking to finalize a deal for fellow Brighton forward Julio Enciso, who is expected to join Chelsea's partner club, Strasbourg, for £13.8 million. Enciso's transfer is structured so that he will eventually play for Chelsea after a year in France.

Chelsea is under pressure to improve their squad’s attacking threat while navigating financial constraints imposed by UEFA, having been fined £26 million for breaching financial regulations. The club has already raised a record £265 million in player sales this summer, including significant departures like Noni Madueke to Arsenal for £52 million.

As the transfer window approaches its deadline, Chelsea remains active in the market, with potential sales involving players like Nicolas Jackson and others, aiming to ensure they maintain a positive transfer balance while strengthening their squad for the upcoming season.
